RoboWrestling

The RoboWrestlling team at the Orlando Maker Faire Sumo Bot Competition (2025)

RoboWrestling specializes in autonomous robot combat in the style of Japanese Sumo tournaments. Weight, speed, and reaction time are crucial factors in the sport of Robot-Sumo. RoboWrestling builds new bots every year and iterates on the successful bots of previous years and is currently focusing on build more robust and durable systems for their robots that implement the most up to date strategies and metas for robot sumo.

The Competitions

Competition Format

Robot Sumo is an autonomous form of combat robots where the robots fight to push each other out of a circular arena. RoboWrestling at Georgia Tech competes in 4 different categories of Robot Sumo. 3kg autonomous and remote control, and 500g autonomous and remote control (with autonomous being what we are best known for). Our robots are defined by their constraints which are simply that the robot cannot be over the weight limit of the category, and cannot be over 20cm x 20cm or 10cm x 10cm respectively. Other than that, the sky’s the limit… FR, there’s no height limit, and our robots are known for being freaky fast!

Competitions (2025 – 2026)

All Japan Robot-Sumo Tournament (AJRST)
AJRST is the international grand final tournament for robot sumo globally! This is a yearly single elimination style competition that takes place in Mid-December in Tokyo, Japan, where competitors who have won tournaments from around the globe gather to compete one last time to try and claim the title of international grand champions for robot sumo! We are taking 1 robot this year (Ferrarrii) to try and claim the title!

RSM International – April 2026
This year, RoboWrestling at GT will debut its newest 3kg bots at the largest sumo competition in Latin America, RSM International at Sao Paulo, Brazil! RSM is anticipated to have over 1000 competitors this year from across the globe, and gives RoboWrestling at RoboJackets a chance to qualify for AJRST 2026.

In-House Competition – March 2026

This year, in March 2026 RoboWrestling at Georgia Tech will be hosting its own Sumo Competition with 3kg and 500g autonomous sumo robots alike. If you are a maker we encourage you to come and compete! Please contact Xander Riddle if you’re interested!
